Cardiac Scoring Evaluation

Cardiac Scoring Evaluation

The heart is a muscle that can undergo very slow damage over time. For that reason, symptoms that might signal developing heart problems are often ignored or assumed to not be serious. One of the earliest indicators of heart problems is calcium build-up. Caught early enough, these calcium build-ups can help guide physicians on treatment options. The earlier this build-up is detected, the less intensive the likely treatment.

The Cardiac Scoring Evaluation takes about 40 minutes and measures the amount and density of calcium in your arteries and provides a numeric score. This data is then used by your physician to help guide treatment and track progress. Please note that this screening complements, but does not replace, other important tests such as cholesterol and blood pressure testing. You may also want to consider combining the Cardiac Scoring with our Lung Screening. Additionally, those with serious concerns about their heart health should ask their doctors if a CT Cardiac Angiogram would be appropriate.

The American Heart Association lists the following as important risk factors for coronary heart disease:

  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Physical inactivity

Details to know

  • Early detection can enable much less intensive treatment
  • The heart screening is painless and non-invasive
  • Those with family history or other risk factors for heart disease can benefit from the peace of mind that comes with regular heart screening
